There is intense debate surrounding the capture of an enormous crocodile in the Philippines earlier this month. Various groups are discussing what to do with the 21ft creature, named Lobo. It is currently being held in a penned enclosure measuring 800m2, in the fishing village where tourists have been invited to see the 1,076kg reptile in its temporary home. Local officials were planning to build a more permanent enclosure for the animal, but naturally animal-rights groups want it released. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claim; “If it remains in captivity it is likely to develop abnormal behaviour and endanger its caretakers and visitors to a proposed park.” But local officials are concerned about the danger it poses to locals, after all Lobo is suspected of killing a fisherman and a little girl.
