Sikkim tourism will come back stronger from earthquake

A week before the earthquake in Sikkim, Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS) had announced plans to aggressively promote the mountainous state at national as well as international level from 2012. Sikkim’s tourism industry, the mainstay of the state’s economy has been dealt with a severe blow by earthquakes. The state has witnessed tours being cancelled and many tourists putting their plans on hold. The whole infrastructure that helped catalyse tourism, namely roads, bridges, home-stays, hotels, monuments, have all been hit. According to local news portal, isikkim.com however, Pawan Chamling, Sikkim’s Chief Minister said that the state will be back to normalcy in a month.
Sikkim is one of the few states in India which has been building and promoting itself as an eco-friendly destination.
