South African Tourism has launched its new training programme today. Travel agents who complete South Africa Expert, which was launched in conjunction with Travel Uni, will be entered into a draw for the chance to join a fam trip to South African during 2011. The course allows agents to learn about the country’s nine provinces in five hours over four modules. “All eyes have been on South Africa over the past couple of months and we expect the ‘World Cup effect’ to increase interest in the destination during the peak winter booking period,” said South African Tourism Country Manager Lebohang Mokhesi We want to ensure that agents have the best possible tools at their disposal to make selling South Africa an even easier and more rewarding experience.” Meanwhile, Trade premier Holidays Product Manager John Parker told Travel daily that sales figures had increased 32% following the World Cup, with bookings for October and November up 150% and 237% respectively. “Many hotels and lodges lowered their rates and extended their low seasons for the months after the world cup and as a result, there are some great deals to be found – especially in September and October when rates traditionally increase for the South African spring,” he explained.
