Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka rose 29.6% in August to 72,463 from a year earlier, with arrival in the first eight months up 35.2 % to 537,787, data from the state tourism promotion agency showed. Visitors from India rose 38.9% to 12,857, while those from Maldives rose 3.7% to 1,929 and Pakistani arrivals rose 5.4% to 728. East Asian markets saw the largest increase however, with Japanese visitors increasing 49.6 % to 2,938, Malaysian arriving growing 49.9 % to 1,568, and visitors from Singapore increasing 36.8% to 1,297.
