Star Clippers, who operate three of the world’s largest and tallest sailing vessels, has announced that it will offer sailings in Costa Rica from November 2010 on board the 170-passenger Star Flyer. The four-masted tall ship will operate two seven-day, round-trip itineraries from Puerto Caldera on the country’s west coast, one taking in Nicaragua, the other visiting Panama.Calling at some of the most exciting ports in the country, the itineraries, which run through to March 2011, mark the first time Star Clippers has offered cruises in this region. Predominantly easterly winds and stable weather prevail on this Pacific coast, creating ideal sailing conditions for Star Flyer, which operates under sail, not motor, wherever possible. Mikael Krafft, owner and president of Star Clippers said “We have brought Star Flyer closer to home, yet we wanted to offer something new and expand our horizons.
