Taiwan is well on track to break its record for annual international tourism arrivals in 2010. According to figures released this week by the country’s Bureau of Tourism, Taiwan welcomed 1.76 million international visitors in the first four months of 2010 - 23.3% more than the same period last year. If that level of visitation continues for the remainder of the year, Taiwan’s tourist arrivals would easily eclipse the 4.4 million visitors it received in 2009 - itself a record figure. The surge in arrivals has been boosted by the increase in cross-Strait tourists from China. The number of visitors from the mainland increased 72.3% in January-April this year, to 525,000.
