Thai temple given UNESCO status
Bangkok’s Phra Chetupon Temple, more commonly known as Wat Pho, has been included in the UNESCO Memory of the World (MOW) Programme in 2009, the Bangkok Post reported.
The temple is one of the oldest in Bangkok, and home to more than 1,000 Buddha statues, including the famous Reclining Buddha.
The UNESCO MOW programme is designed to protect and preserve the world’s most valuable examples of peoples’ languages and cultures.
