Thai, UK tour operators join hands
The operators plan to meet in March and survey possible sites before launching the programme in the middle of the year, Tanes Petsuwan, director of the Thailand Community Based Tourism Institute (CBT-I), was quoted saying.
The report said the programme will target small groups such as students, families, and visitors who prefer cultural and natural attractions. Travellers would be able to experience and learn about people living in rural areas and taking part in activities such as trekking, fishing, diving and preparing local dishes.
The CBT-I is now selecting 10 Thai operators to join 10 UK tour operators to prepare programmes for British visitors.
The participating British travel companies are: Audley, Exodus, Explore Worldwide, Gecko Travel, Go Differently, Hands Up Holidays, Symbiosis Expeditions, Imaginative Traveller, Adventure Company, and Trade Craft-Meet the People Tours.
Both sides would choose 10 CBT locations in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Bangkok, Koh Samui and Phuket.
