Sydney’s leisure and entertainment venue, The Star has been officially relaunched, with a spectacular opening ceremony. The AU$870 million (US$894 million) transformation of Star City included the complete re-orientation of the building. Located on Sydney’s harbourside, The Star includes more than 20 restaurants, bars and cafes, upscale retail outlets, a 4,000-pax capacity entertainment centre and gaming areas. A key feature of the development is The Darling, the new 171-room five-star hotel and spa.
The opening ceremony was attended by Aussie A-listers, Olivia Newton John and Russell Crowe.
Larry Mullin, CEO of Echo Entertainment Group, which owns and operates The Star, said of the redevelopment; “This AU$870 million investment will position us as a powerful force in entertainment and gaming. We’re also proud that we have been able to create 1,500 construction jobs and nearly 1,000 ongoing positions in one of the biggest hospitality recruitment drives this city has seen in many years.”
New South Wales Minister for Tourism & Major Events, George Souris, added; “I congratulate the operators of The Star, a total entertainment complex which will help propel Sydney as the premiere tourist destination not just in Australia, but in the entire Asia Pacific area.
“The redevelopment is truly magnificent and it has transformed the venue into something of which New South Wales can truly be proud,” he added.
