Travel industry leads online retail in Aus

The online travel trade in Australia broke records in the first quarter, but as online spending surges, it is still unclear where online shoppers are spending their money.
There is little doubt that the internet is becoming the medium of choice when it come to travel research and bookings. In Q1 2010, the online travel sector accumulated AU$601 million (US$645 million) in countrywide sales. A report published by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ADMA) concludes that 56% of online consumers purchase travel products. This coincides with PhoCusWright’s 2010 findings of travel being the most popular and rapidly growing internet travel category Australians are shopping for.
