Turkey’s tourism industry announced a strong first half performance in 2014 with its tourism revenue reaching US$13.783 billion, a six percent increase compared to the previous year.

According to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, total tourism income in 2013 was US$32.309 billion. In the first six months of 2014, revenue from tourism already reached US$13 billion, putting it past the halfway mark of the previous year.

The number of tourists visiting Turkey has also noticeably increased. In 2013, total foreign visitors reached 34.91 million. Foreign visitors in the first half of 2014 were 13.783 m, up from 12.964 m for the same period last year.

Turkey also enjoyed a marked increase with visitors from the Gulf region. From May to July of this year, a total number of 60,261 tourists arrived in Turkey from the GCC region, which is up by 78% from same period last year. Tourists visiting Turkey are predominantly from Kuwait. Some 15,301 tourists visited Turkey from Kuwait in July alone. UAE followed with 10,222 and next came Qatar and Bahrain with 5,785 and 4,548 respectively.
