Uniworld’s new ship SS Catherine was christened in Lyon today with Catherine Deneuve as its godmother.
Deneuve was in the French port to lead the ceremony where a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne was ceremoniously smashed on the bow.
The ship has 80 staterooms, five suites and one Royal Presidential Suite and was designed by Beatrice Tollman, president and founder of Uniworld’s sister company Red Carnation Hotel Collection.
Tollman’s daughter Toni and projects director Brian Brennan also had a hand in the design, which includes a Murano chandelier in the lobby and cinema facilities in Bar du Leopard.
Its restaurants and bars will have food from local farmer markets which will be visited daily.
“I am confident that the S.S. Catherine will continue setting the standard of excellence in luxury river cruising,” said Guy Young, president of Uniworld. “She will allow us to offer more capacity to support our popular ‘Burgundy and Provence’ and ‘Grand France’ itineraries.”
