Qantas will use larger aircraft, consolidate services and deploy management staff to act in operational roles to minimise disruptions during next week’s strike action ground staff. An estimated 3,800 members of Transport Workers’ Union (TWU), including baggage handlers, ground staff, catering, freight and other transport employees, will down tools for four hours on 20September at airports across Australia.
Qantas Group Executive, Olivia Wirth said the airline was focusedon keeping passengers moving during the industrial action.
“The TWU is intent on causing disruptions to Qantas passengers andwe are doing everything we possibly can to reduce the delays andcancellations,” Ms Wirth said. “Qantas will publish an updated schedule in thecoming days and contact any passenger who has been affected by the strike tomake alternative travel arrangements.”
