Vietnam Airlines has signed a US$112 million contract to buy six turboprop ATR72-500 planes, Reuters reported. The deliveries will take place between June 2009 and February 2010.
“With today’s purchase of six further ATR72-500s, we will satisfy the increasing demand for services on short-haul routes,” Vietnam Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer, Pham Ngoc Minh, was reported saying during a signing ceremony in Hanoi.
Minh added that the airline would gradually replace the old model ATR72-200 planes between July 2009 and May 2010 with the newer model.
