A ceremony was held in Vietnam’s Phu Yen province on Thursday to mark the launch the country’s National Tourism Year 2011. The campaign will focus on driving tourism to eight cities and provinces on Vietnam’s south and central coast, from Danang to Binh Thuan. According to the Vietnam National Administration for Tourism (VNAT), various cultural, sporting and tourism events are being planned, including an Asian music festival, an international choir festival, a film festival and a yacht race. The theme for this year’s National Tourism Year is ‘Beach and Island’. Vietnam is aiming to attract 5.3 million international tourists in 2011, with total revenues targeted at VND110 trillion (US$5.2 billion).
