Visit Andorra has been named as the official destination partner for Snowsport England, the national governing body for snowsports, for the 2016/2017 winter season.
Around 30,000 British skiers and snowboarders visit Andorra every winter. The Principality has increasing flight access via Barcelona and Toulouse airports and continues to work closely with tour operators from the UK.
Recently recognised by Ski Club of Great Britain as the leading destination for first time skiers, Andorra has partnered with Snowsport England to develop relationships with families and children who are new to skiing and snowboarding.
The agreement includes an ongoing commercial partnership, sponsoring a number of Snowsport England conferences and events.
A key focus will be National Schools Snowsport Week; a week long programme allowing school children to sample skiing on dry or indoor slopes for free. In 2015, its first year, 23 events were held across the country allowing school kids to try snowboarding or skiing at home.
Joaquim Tomas, commercial director of Andorra Turisme, said: “Andorra has always been a popular destination for first time skiers and our two main ski regions of Vallnord and Grandvalira invest heavily each year to improve their facilities. From 1,415 snow cannons to over 300K of slopes, we have plenty to keep skiers and boarders occupied all season.”
