Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced plans to launch its W Hotels brand in Malaysia, with the signing of a deal with the Dijaya Corporation Bhd to manage the W Kuala Lumpur. The 150-room hotel is scheduled to open in 2016.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Malaysia’s Tourism Minister, Dr Ng Yen Yen. “We look forward to the iconic W brand’s entry to Malaysia and the ‘wow’ factor that this will bring to the tourism industry. W Kuala Lumpur will inject a design-led lifestyle in our city; the modern traveller will easily identify with W’s modern comforts and sensational service philosophy,” Dr Ng said.
“Dijaya is proud to partner with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, a company with a long history of designing, building and managing world-class hotels and resorts. We have chosen a proven partner that is in line with our focus to grow with a dynamic presence,” said Rohana Binti Tan Sri Mahmood, Independent Non-executive Chairman of the Dijaya Corporation.
Mahmood added that the company would work towards a Green Building Index (GBI) rating. “In continuing our legacy for innovation, Dijaya is looking at the needs of tomorrow’s jet-setters while also addressing a wider range of environmental challenges facing this industry. W Kuala Lumpur is an iconic start that is sure to set a new industry standard for green hotels in Malaysia,” Datuk Rohana affirmed.
“W Kuala Lumpur will be an exciting addition to the brand’s growing international footprint in the world’s most exciting cities and emerging destinations, including hotels in Guangzhou, Singapore, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai and Mumbai. We are delighted with the signing of the W brand in this gateway city in South East Asia – Kuala Lumpur, which is one of Asia’s hippest and most cosmopolitan cities and a business hub of Malaysia,” said Chuck Abbott, Regional Vice President Southeast Asia for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific. “Malaysia has developed a reputation for its excellent standard of hospitality and customer service and Starwood Hotels & Resorts is proud to contribute towards the continuing growth of Malaysia as a key business and leisure destination. W Kuala Lumpur will redefine the meaning of hospitality in Kuala Lumpur and is well equipped to electrify the city.”
The new hotel will located within KL’s Golden Triangle area. Situated along Jalan Ampang, the hotel is 500 metres from the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Facilities at the W Kuala Lumpur will include four food and beverage outlets, as well as a fitness centre, spa and nail bar. The hotel will also feature 1,200 square metres of meeting space, with one ballroom and five meeting and function rooms.
