12,000+ APD emails “ignored” by MPs

MPs are “ignoring” more than 12,000 emails regarding the discontent around Air Passenger Duty, A Fair Tax on Flying has revealed.
David Cameron is said to have received 477 emails about APD and Treasury ministers seen 2,259 emails against the tax, which is to increase again on 1 April.
A Fair Tax on Flying criticised the Government for refusing an independent review into the impact of APD and, amongst others, has called for the tax to be scrapped.
“The amount of tax paid on flying means air travel is becoming increasingly out of reach for many families. The loss of routes as a direct result of the exorbitant levels of APD is well-documented, yet the Chancellor plans more rises in the tax this year,” said Simon Buck, chief executive of the British Air Transport Association (BATA). “With this in mind it is inconceivable that the Government is planning to go ahead with these rises against comprehensive new evidence that only total abolition or a reduction in APD will achieve economic benefits.”
