Indonesian airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I has selected SITA to boost the technology at 13 airports across the country.
SITA’s AirportConnect Open system, which controls the IT systems at check-in desks, gates, self-service kiosks and baggage drop facilities, will now be rolled out at 13 airports in eastern Indonesia, namely those serving Bali, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Makassar, Manado, Solo, Biak, Lombok, Ambon, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Banjarmasin and Kupang.
In addition, PT Angkasa Pura I will use SITA’s passenger flow monitoring technology and local departure control systems.
“Our vision at Angkasa Pura is to run world-class airports improving the experience for all passengers, and we need a reliable platform with international exposure to get us there as quickly as possible,” said Tommy Soetomo, CEO of Angkasa Pura I. “We have set an aggressive timeline to deploy the technology in all our airports within a year. This will allow us to cater for the doubling of passenger numbers expected in Indonesia over the next five years.”
Handling more than 68 million passengers in 2013, Indonesia is the biggest aviation market in Southeast Asia and it continues to grow rapidly. This figure is forecast to reach more than 300m passengers by 2025.
“The deployment of our platform at these 13 airports confirms SITA’s position at the heart of the air transport industry in Indonesia,” said Ilya Gutlin, SITA President Asia Pacific. “SITA has been in Indonesia for more than 10 years and we have successfully provided our common-use system at the international airports in Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya.
“Now with all 13 of these airports using SITA AirportConnect Open, SITA is working together with the Indonesian authorities to ensure that the airports meet world-class standards, while helping to power growth in Indonesian aviation,” Gutlin added.
More than 400 airports around the world currently use SITA’s AirportConnect Open system, which allows airlines to share facilities, using any agent desk or gate position.
The roll-out at these 13 Indonesian airports has already begun and will be completed in phases.
