Malta’s capital city Valletta has been named as the European Capital of Culture 2018.
The city, which was chosen by the European Parliament and Council of Ministers, will now develop a European cultural programme for the year that involves residents and the entire country.
It will share the title with a city in the Netherlands which is yet to be announced.
“This is an important moment for the artistic and cultural community and a milestone for our tourism industry, giving us the platform to showcase the beauty of our cultural heritage to the world,” said Alex Incorvaja, director UK & Ireland at the Malta Tourism Authority.
