Friends and former colleagues of John McEwan joined the travel industry stalwart to celebrate his 50 years in travel last night.
McEwan’s former Thomson, Thomas Cook and Advantage colleagues as well as other members of the travel industry joined him and hosts Travel Daily UK at the Charing Cross Hotel to hear about his career and mark the special anniversary.
Charles Gurassa shared early memories of McEwan starting out as a travel agent and moving up through the ranks at Thomas Cook, followed by VisitBritain’s chairman Christopher Rodrigues who talked about McEwan’s time at Thomson.
Willie Stewart then shared stories about McEwan’s time joining Advantage Travel Centres and his achievements at the consortia.
Travel Daily gathered messages and stories for John during the night, which will be shared in tomorrow’s e-magazine.
“Fifty years in any industry is a real achievement, but 50 years of accumulating these friends and admirers is quite a feat,” said Rodrigues.
“John was always a man of innovation and ideas,” added Gurassa. “I had the pleasure of working with him in the 1980s and I can genuinely say I could not have had a better boss. He was always firm but passionate and committed.”
