Korean Air is resuming flights to the Russian city of Irkutsk, the gateway to Lake Baikal.

The route will commence on 18 May 2015 and will operate twice a week direct from Seoul’s Incheon International Airport. Flights will run every Monday and Friday using a 159-seat, two-class Boeing 737-900 aircraft.

Located in Siberia, UNESCO-listed Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world and a popular tourist destination.

The announcement of the resumption of flights to Irkutsk comes just a week after Korean Air confirmed that it would start flying to St Petersburg on 26 April. The national carrier also connects Seoul with Moscow and Vladivostok.
