Air India has suffered more than 300 delays due to problems with its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the country’s aviation minister has revealed.
The Hindustan Times reported Ashok Gajapathi Raju as saying that approximately 3% of the aircraft’s total departures had been hit by problems.
“Till June, out of the total of 9,902 take offs, 318 instances of service delays attributed to technical snags have been reported,” the minister was quoted saying in reply to a question in India’s Lok Sabha, or House of the People.
“AI is in constant touch with Boeing. Boeing technical team has visited India and as a reliability enhancement measure, each Dreamliner aircraft was taken in for a 7-10 day maintenance grounding during December 2013 to March 2014,” he added.
Air India started flying the Dreamliner in September 2012, and recently welcomed its 15th B787 out of a total order for 27 of the aircraft.
