63 SpiceJet pilots suspended

Sixty-three pilots employed by Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet have been suspended for flying beyond their allotted working hours.
The Economic Times reports that the issue was raised in India’s parliament, the Lok Sabha, on Thursday.
“During surveillance and subsequent scrutiny of records, it has been revealed that 63 pilots of SpiceJet had operated flights exceeding [their] flight duty period as laid down in civil aviation requirements,” Jayant Sinha, India’s Minister of State for Aviation was quoted saying.
He added that the pilots have already been suspended for a period of 15 days. The suspensions took place about five months ago, but have only just come to light.
The suspensions were only handed down to pilots who breached the rules more than once. Those committing a single offence were given warnings.
