Qatar Airways announces seven new routes, orders 88 Airbus

Qatar Airways has announced seven new route launches for next year including two in Europe. The airline will launch flights to Helsinki and Zagreb from Doha, as well as Perth. It will also operate flights to Gassim in Saudi Arabia,Zanzibar, Kigali and Mombasa next year.
The news comes after the carrier made an order for 88 aircraft from Airbus in what has been a bumper few days for orders in the Middle East. The carrier has agreed to buy 50 A320neos with the option for 30 more, plus five additional A380s and another possible three. The carrier already has five A380s on order and deliveries are set to begin in 2013.
“The A320neo promises to be a great aircraft which is why we have chosen it to form the backbone of our future single aisle expansion,” said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways.
