Galapagos clarifies tourism figures are for ships

The Galapagos Islands has confirmed its newtourism regulations will only affect cruise and boat companies and not generalvisitors. Although its statement two weeks ago claimed that tourist numbers tothe archipelago would be capped from 1 February next year, the destination has clarified that the rules only apply to tour companies that operate cruises inthe region.
The regulations mean that vessels will be limited to the number oftimes it can visit a site and the length it can stay.
The islands hope the newrules will spread tourists across more sites, give equal access to boats andcut out short cruise itineraries.
