Volcanic activity increases at Krakatau

Anak Krakatau, the infamous Indonesian volcano located between Java and Sumatra islands, is rumbling into life again. Indonesia’s Antara news agency reported scientists in the country as saying that they had recorded 5,883 tremors from the volcano on 8 Octobers, following 5,543 and 5,204 tremors in previous days.
The volcano erupted briefly on Tuesday, spewing ash and rock into the air. The eruption was the biggest since January 2011. A 2km no-go zone has been established around the volcano.
Anak Krakatau is literally translated as the ‘Child of Krakatoa’ – the volcano that erupted in 1883 killing approximately 40,000 people and producing what is believed to have been the loudest sound heard in modern history – picked up 4,800km from its point of origin.
