The Kurdistan Region is expected to become a member of the Madrid-based United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in fewer than two months, as reported by A K News. A delegation from the region participated in the UNWTO’s conference held from April 10th – 11th for the first time.
Kurdistan was the only region to participate in the gathering, said general director for Garmiyan area tourism Pshtiwan Abdul-Kareem. He led the delegation to Spain. Abdul-Kareem mentioned that the delegation took part in the first day of the conference in the name of Iraq. On following day, the delegation introduced itself as the representative for the Kurdistan region and succeeded in forming relations with a number of state members.
“There is a chance that before June they will respond to us. In addition Kurdistan enjoys security and it has been named the Arab tourism capital for 2015,” added Abdul-Kareem.
