Qatar Airways has said that it will not be able to launch its direct Doha-Houston services on 8 December as planned. A strike by Boeing workers has meant that the delivery schedule for Qatar’s new 777-200LR aircraft will not be met. Qatar has said that the Houston services will now be postponed until 30 March 2009.
Meanwhile the carrier has said that the launch of its direct daily Doha-New York (JFK) flights will not be affected, and will commence on 26 October as expected. Qatar already serves the US with direct services to Washington DC.
“Qatar Airways’ existing New York operation has proved very successful since its launch in summer 2007 and we look forward to offering our customers an enhanced service to and from one of the world’s most important cities by switching the flights from Newark to JFK,” said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, Akbar Al Baker.
In reference to the Houston delay, Al Baker said; “Qatar Airways is taking all steps necessary to contact passengers who have booked tickets to and from Houston and assist them with making alternative travel arrangements,” Al Baker said.
