It probably will not come as much of a surprise to hear the British are the most sun-seeking nation in the world, according to a new report by Wyndham Hotel Group.
According to 5,6000 adults surveyed by the hotel chain, 41% of Brits prefer a beach holiday to any other during the summer and also tend to take longer holidays, with 25% planning trips two weeks or longer.
However, Directline Holidays has noticed a trend in more bookings for all-inclusive mini breaks. The OTA said enquiries for four and five night breaks in the Algarve have increased, hinting that while consumers will still head to the beach, they are cutting back on the length of stay.
Despite location named as an important factor for Brits, less than a fifth view sightseeing as a main holiday focus, while 56% agreed with the rest of the world when they said relaxation was the first reason for a holiday. Families still lead the summer holiday market (59%), with 76% of travelers saying spontaneity was a ‘crucial ingredient’ to organising a break away.
