Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas cruise liner called at Fukuoka for the first time today.
An official ceremony greeted the ship and its 3,000 passengers on arrival at the Japanese city, including 60 government officials, media and trade delegates as well as Royal Caribbean representatives in Japan. Traditional plaque exchanges were conducted between Soichiro Takashima, the Mayor of Fukuoka, and the ship’s captain Charles Teige.
The ship is on a five-night cruise from Shanghai with calls at Nagasaki and Jeju, as well as Fukuoka.
“Fukuoka… has always been a highly popular destination for Royal Caribbean International’s Asian itineraries, and we are pleased to feature it in Voyager of the Seas’ maiden Asian season,” said Isao Iio, Royal Caribbean’s Representative in Japan. “With our multiple calls lined up at Fukuoka, we will be bringing thousands of cruisers here for them to discover and explore its unique attractions such as its famous street cuisine and ancient castles and shrines.”
The 14-deck Voyager of the Seas is currently undertaking its maiden Asian season. It has already sailed a series of three- to five-night Southeast Asian cruises from Singapore and is now embarking on its Northeast Asia season with a range of five- to seven-night itineraries from Shanghai and Tianjin, calling at ports in Japan and Korean.
Together with Legend of the Seas, which is also currently based in North Asia, the ships will more than double Royal Caribbean’s capacity in the region compared to last year.
