Qatar Airways unveils B787 Dreamliner
Qatar Airways officially unveiled its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the opening day of the Farnborough International Air Show.
The airline’s CEO Akbar Al Baker was joined by Boeing’s new commercial President & CEO, Ray Conner, for yesterday’s unveiling. The aircraft later took to the skies for an aerial display, the first of three during the week-long event.
This is the first of five Dreamliners to be delivered to Qatar Airways during 2012.
“This is a very proud moment for Qatar Airways and my country, the State of Qatar. As an airline, we have continued to push the boundaries and set new standards in global aviation for more than a decade to create a world class airline,” said Al Baker.
“The 787 will create new benchmarks in comfort and space across both our business and economy cabins and continue to allow us to offer an unrivalled in-flight experience and unparalleled signature ‘Five-Star’ service onboard to existing passengers and new ones,” he added.
Qatar Airways’ B787s will be configured in two classes, with 22 flat bed business class seats a 1-2-1 layout, and 232 economy class seats in a 3–3–3 configuration. The aircraft will include the iTouch touch control in-flight entertainment unit, more than 1,000 movies, TV and audio channels, iPorts, USB ports and remote data outlets.
The aircraft will enter commercial service on the Doha-London Heathrow route later this summer.
