Significant growth for Abu Dhabi’s MICE sector

The Abu Dhabi Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) sector is gearing up to experience more growth with more events scheduled to be staged in the Capital. Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC) and Reed Exhibitions are rolling out five major new events.

In 2011, ADNEC hosted 231 events, a 65% year-on-year increase over 2010. While the total contribution of MICE business events to the emirate’s economy is AED2.4 billion at present according to figures provided by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, their direct impact is projected to increase at a 7% annual rate over the next eight years to reach AED5.1 billion by 2020.

The first major event will be the sixth World Future Energy Summit, which will take place from January 15th to 17th, 2013, hosted by Masdar. The first International Water Summit will also be organised from January 15th – 17th, 2013, in co-location with the World Future Energy Summit and hosted by Masdar. The International Jewellery & Watch Show will run from March 14th – 18th, 2013 attracting 130 exhibitors from 15 countries.

The first edition of the Waste Exhibition will be held in January 2014; Three major exhibitions will also be running from March 31st – April 2nd, 2014, these include ISNR Homeland Security & National Resilience, Fire & Emergency Middle East and Health & Safety at Work Expo (HSW Expo 2014).
