Starwood Hotels & Resorts has launched a new Luxury Collection hotel in Spain.
Following a US$25 million (£16m) renovation, the Hotel Maria Cristina in the Basque city of San Sebastian has joined Starwood’s luxury label. The hotel, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this month, features high ceilings and marble pillars and floors. The 107 rooms and 29 suites feature gold furnishings, while F&B offerings include the Tse Yang Chinese restaurant, the Easo Restaurant, and the Dry San Sebastian bar.
“Hotel Maria Cristina has been a beloved landmark in this city since 1912 and has been centre stage to the San Sebastian Film Festival for more than half of a century,” said Paul James, global brand leader of St Regis and The Luxury Collection. “We are delighted to reintroduce this historic icon and unlock the exceptional and indigenous experiences of this destination to our guests.”
The Hotel Maria Cristina is one of several Luxury Collection hotels currently being renovated. Seville’s Hotel Alfonso XIII underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment earlier this year, while the restored Prince de Galles in Paris and The Gritti Palace in Venice will be unveiled in 2013.
