Tropical Storm Isaac’s forced closure of the Port of Miami – which shut its doors late on Saturday – has meant that many cruise itineraries have been severely affected.
Companies including Royal Caribbean International (RCI), Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line have been forced to either delay their return to the city or put back their departure, to stay away from the storm.
RCI has delayed the departure of two of its ships – Allure of the Seas and Majesty of the Seas – meaning that the former will return to its homeport (Port Lauderdale) two days behind schedule. This has meant a shortened itinerary of five days from seven – cutting calls in Falmouth and Labadee and adding one in Nassau. Passengers will receive onboard credit for the missed days.
The storm is currently heading towards the US Gulf Coast, with New Orleans within its flight path, seven years after Hurricane Katrina – the most costly natural disaster in US history – hit the city, killing 1,800 people.
