Less than half (47%) of consumers recognise the ATOL brand with less than a third of 15-24s aware of the scheme, a new ABTA survey has revealed.
While eight in 10 consumers are said to recognise the ABTA logo, the awareness of ATOL is said to have dropped 6% compared to last year.
The survey results come as details around ATOL certificates have continued to raise questions from the industry two weeks ahead of their launch. On 1 October travel agents will be legally required to give customers certificates when they take payment for a booking, with the document listing what is protected and by which company.
With agency agreements also needed to be put in place by the 1 October deadline, several events have been held around the country to help agents understand the changes and compliance.
However ABTA has continued to pursue the CAA for clarification on regulations on behalf of members, while its training videos and model documents are online for reference. It warned that tour operators may vary in their method of obtaining certificates.
