Nepal is trying to diversify its range of tourism products to include MICE, targeting this segment from India, Bangladesh and South East Asia.
More meetings will be held in Chitwan and Pokhara, Nepal Tourism Board Director, Aditya Bartal said in Manila during the ongoing PATA Travel Mart.
Good air connectivity and accommodation at these places will help promote the growing MICE segment, he claimed, adding that while no new hotels are coming up, capacity and facilities are being added in some four-five star hotels. Prospective delegates will also be served by 31 airlines operating to Kathmandu from 24 cities.
The Nepal Tourism Board targets two million arrivals by 2020. In 2011, the country recorded 735,932 arrivals, which was 22.1 percent more than in 2010, and it has made good progress in 2012 with 377,043 arrivals January – August, up 16.3 percent year on year.
