ATR has delivered the first ATR 72-600 aircraft to an Asian carrier.
The new turboprop aircraft was handed to Taiwan-based Uni Air in a delivery ceremony in Toulouse. The new ATR 72-600 is now expected to enter service on 11 October, serving the domestic route between Taipei and Taidong.
The aircraft is the first of an order for 10 ATR 72-600s, which Uni Air – a subsidiary of EVA Air – will use to replace its Bombardier Q-300s turboprops.
“We are really proud to be introducing the new ATR 72-600 into our fleet,” said Uni Air’s Chairman, Tony Su. “This aircraft has proven already to be a commercial and operational success around the world. We are delighted to be further developing and upgrading our regional routes and service with such an outstanding and comfortable aircraft.”
Filippo Bagnato, CEO of ATR, called the aircraft’s arrival in Asia a “milestone” for the company.
“In the last years, Asia has substantially developed regional aviation and we are pleased that many prestigious Asian carriers as Uni Air have decided to expand with the newest ATR -600 series aircraft,” he said. “We are pleased to strongly contribute to the expansion of regional aviation in Asia with our green and most modern ATR -600s.”
The ATR 72-600 aircraft can carry approximately 70 passengers on routes up to 1,665km.
