Southern Florida is bracing itself for Hurricane Sandy after storm swept through the Caribbean earlier this week.

Tropical storm conditions are expected along the south-east coast of Florida, the Upper Keys and Florida Bay tomorrow with the area on watch for a storm, said the US National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Sandy struck through Cuba this morning after sweeping through Jamaica and Haiti earlier in the week.

According to The Telegraph 5,000 tourists were evacuated from beach resorts in Cuba’s Holguin before the storm struck, with Sandy expected to stay as a hurricane as it moves through the Bahamas later today.

Authorities in Jamaica closed its international airports and redirected cruise ships on Wednesday, with winds said to have hit a high of 114mph in Cuba. The airports have now reopened.

Two people have reportedly died in Jamaica and Haiti.
