A new portable WiFi device that can be used abroad for a flat rate has been launched to the trade at WTM.
The device, named Globalgig, sells data by gigabyte and can connect up to five devices. It can currently be used in the UK and USA, but will soon be rolled out to Australia and the APAC and Europe region and comes as more travellers get stung by high phone bills when returning from a trip.
Throughout the show the team said it had seen interest from both leisure and business travel companies; both for internal use when travelling on business or to offer as an ancillary service to clients.
“There is currently nothing like this on a global scale and it is not only about price but technology too as the sim inside switches between countries automatically,” explained Nigel Bramwell, CEO of parent company Voiamo to Travel Daily. “We want to be transparent with our clients and up-front about the costs involved and the client selects the password to have complete control.”
Globalgig uses established network providers such as 3, with prices starting from GBP15 for 1GB of data on a month-by-month contract.
