Marriott International has agreed to manage seven more hotels in Thailand.

The deals, signed yesterday with Bangkok-based TCC Hotels Group, will expand the US hotel company’s Thai portfolio from 12 to 19 properties, adding 3,000 rooms to its nationwide inventory. The agreements also make the TCC the largest owner of Marriott hotels in Asia Pacific.

The new properties encompass four brands and four destinations – Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Phuket. Two existing hotels will be rebranded, with Marriott taking over the running of the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel Bangkok, which will be rebranded as the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Queen’s Park, and the Imperial Adamas Phuket Beach Resort, which will become the Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Nai Yang Beach. Both properties will undergo major refurbishment work, expected to cost in the region of US$500 million, before being relaunched as Marriott properties in 2016.

The five new-build hotels will be the Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa, Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa Jomtien Beach, JW Marriott Pattaya Resort & Spa, Bangkok Marriott Hotel & Executive Apartments Surawong, and The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok.

“We are delighted to announce this landmark deal for Thailand. TCC Hotels Group is very well established as a hotel owner and operator around the world and these seven hotels will add to our already strong portfolio of hotels in the country,” said Simon Cooper, Marriott International’s president and managing director for Asia Pacific. “I believe this partnership shows our commitment to and faith in Thailand as a strategically important business and leisure destination in Southeast Asia.”

“TCC Hotels Group believes that Thailand and the group could benefit from the global network and standards of Marriott International. We are very excited to be working together with Marriott International, an experienced global operator to support our growth strategy and our confidence in both Tourism and MICE business sectors of Thailand,” added Wallapa Traisorat, president of TCC Hotels Group.

These 3,000 rooms are in addition to Marriott International’s existing pipeline in Thailand of more than 1,000 rooms, and the company expects to manage almost 7,000 rooms in Thailand by 2017.
