Tourism NZ targets Thai travellers
Tourism New Zealand has joined forces with Thai Airways International (THAI) and Auckland Airport in an effort to attract more Thai travellers to the country.
A new campaign, titled ‘Explore 100% Pure New Zealand Autumn Colour by Road’, has been launched with the intention of promoting driving holidays in New Zealand to Thai families. It will use attractions such as Rotorua, The Hobbit movie set, Lake Taupo and the Aoraki Mount Cook range in an effort to broaden the appeal of New Zealand to Thais.
“New Zealand definitely has a lot to offer to Thai travellers, and we want to become one of the top vacation choices for Thais looking to experience something different,” said Mischa Mannix-Opie, Tourism New Zealand’s Regional Manager for South & Southeast Asia. “New Zealand offers one of the world’s best road trip experiences, either by coach or self-drive.”
In 2012, 16,944 Thai visitors travelled to New Zealand, but the country is planning to increase this to between 25,000 and 30,000 by 2020.
THAI currently flies direct to Auckland from Bangkok five times a week, using a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with a capacity of 292 seats.
