Norwegian cruise operator Hurtigruten has announced it will be launching a land programme, developed with its subsidiary company, Spitsbergen Travel.

The firm will be offering experiences like riding a dog cart, exploring glaciers and snowmobiling in the Arctic Desert.

The trips will be available as part of two, three or four night packages throughout March, May, October and December.

Kathryn Beadle, managing director at Hurtigruten commented: “As customers seek out more and more adventurous activities, these short breaks are a great option for agents to promote. They provide great flexibility with daily departures and each month provides a differing range of experiences. These trips will appeal to a range of customers including a younger audience who are looking for an Arctic adventure.”

Packages include the ‘Magical Darkness and Northern Lights’ tour in December which takes in a 45km snowmobile ‘safari’, a dog sledding trip and an evening at a local camp. The two night experience with bb accommodation and all three excursions is priced from GBP602 for two nights, GBP648 for three and GBP695 for four. Flights cost extra.
