Barrhead Travel and Midcounties Co-op have signed a deal to become what it believes will be the most “powerful independent buying group in the UK travel industry”.
The two will aim to boost their offering, raise brand awareness and strengthen supplier relationships in the partnership, which will be officially launched on 1 November.
As part of the deal, Midcounties will migrate to Barrhead’s Nevis booking system to provide real-time rates for the former company and a more personalised offering.
“The similarities between our businesses were striking from the outset, and this partnership will create the strongest force in the travel marketplace,” said Barrhead’s chairman Bill Munro on the announcement.
“Nevis already enables Barrhead Travel to manage its business far more effectively than ever before, and Midcounties will gain great business advantage from using this cutting edge technology, particularly the booking system personalisation element,” he added.
Together Barrhead and Midcounties represent 104 high street travel agent branches.
