Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is to increase agent commissions on its Anchor Fares to 10% with immediate effect, the company has announced.

The announcement came with the news that the firm would also be increasing the commission level for bookings made while passengers were onboard a Fred. Olsen ship. The new level will also be 10% under the automatic referral initiative. The future cruise commission rate will be changed on 1 July 2013.

The line will also fund a 5% discount on all agent bookings for future cruises.

“These changes to commission levels are aimed at making our travel trade partners more profitable through promoting and selling Fred. Olsen cruises,” said Nathan Philpot, Sales and Marketing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.

To encourage bookings the line is offering a free one category cabin upgrade on accommodation (selected cruises) and a ‘Deposit Instalment Scheme’ on board.

“The number of late bookings has more than doubled in the last year, and we are aware that this has had a significant impact on agents’ earnings, with more bookings being made at lower commission rates and with lower yields. To help to redress the balance, we will be supporting our travel trade partners by moving all our special offers to 10% commission.”
