The campaign has been reintroduced

A campaign to promote safety on hotel balconies has been reintroduced for the summer following a recent balcony death in Bulgaria.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and ABTA has renewed its call for young Brits to take care on balconies following the death of 19-year-old Liam Davies, who died in Bulgaria after falling from a balcony on the 10th floor of his hotel after a night out.

There were 14 balcony incidents last year with seven already recorded this year. Incidents mainly involve young people and alcohol.

“Our staff has seen the devastating effects a momentary lapse in judgement can have on the victim and their family and we are working hard to ensure people understand the risks. Accidents can and do happen and climbing from balcony to balcony, jumping off them or drinking excessively while on one only increases your chances of something going wrong,” said a member of Sofia’s British Consul Jon O’Shaughnessy.
