Tune Hotels has continued its expansion in the Philippines with the launch of its first property in the Cagayan De Oro, on the southern island of Mindanao.

The budget hotel chain entered the Philippines in February 2012 and has since added four locations in the country – three in Manila and one in Cebu.

This will increase to five hotels this week with the opening of the Tune Hotel Cagayan De Oro, which is expected to welcome its first guests on 19 July. The hotel will include 159 rooms, a restaurant and a function room for up to 30 people. Like the other Tune hotels, the Cagayan De Oro property will offer a room-only concept with chargeable extras such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, bathroom amenities and towels.

The Tune Hotels brand in the Philippines is owned and operated by franchisee Red Planet Hotels, and CEO Tim Hansing said he is targeting a minimum of 15 properties in the country in the coming years.

“It has been extremely pleasing to see how rapidly and how well the Tune Hotels brand and concept has been accepted by Filipinos and international travellers alike,” said Hansing.

“By presenting to the market an international brand managed entirely by locals, the warmth of Filipino hospitality has convinced both the Tune brand and Red Planet Hotels to make a significant investment in to the country as the travel and tourism sector continues to strengthen and grow.”

Following the Cagayan De Oro launch, new Tune hotels are expected to launch on Quezon City (140 rooms), Ortigas (182 rooms) and Davao (155 rooms) in the next two years. And Hansing added that he expects to launch more hotels in the Manila region, while at the same time evaluating other provincial locations.

Tune now has a portfolio of 31 hotels in seven countries – Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Australia, the Philippines and UK.
