Cebu Pacific Airways (CEB) saw a continued rise in passenger traffic in the first half of the year.
The Philippine low-cost carrier flew 7.5 million passengers from January to June 2013, an increase of 8% over the same period last year. This was partially driven by the launch of new routes; CEB commenced twice weekly flights from Manila to Bali, thrice weekly flights from Cebu to Masbate and four weekly flights from Cebu to Camiguin in the first half of 2013.
And it plans to continue this growth in the second half, with the launch of flights from Manila to Phuket on 16 August and Dubai on 7 October 2013. It will also add flights to existing services to Hanoi and Guangzhou in the 4th quarter of 2013.
CEB’s flights operated on average 85.4% full in the first six months of the year.
“Cebu Pacific will continue to grow its route network,” said the airline’s vice president of marketing & distribution, Candice Iyog. “This is a very exciting time for Cebu Pacific and our guests, as we take delivery of more brand-new aircraft and launch new routes in the coming months.”
Also in the first half of the year CEB took delivery of four new aircraft – three A320s and its first wide-body A330-300, which it will use to launch the Dubai route. CEB now operates a fleet of 45 aircraft.
