Papua New Guinea will benefit from an increase in cruise ship visits this year, boosting its tourism numbers.
The destination has been included on two P&O Cruises’ itineraries onboard Pacific Dawn with a focus on culture and watersports.
Australia-based cruise line Coral Princess Cruises will be offering embarkation cruises from PNG, while Noble Caledonia will offer an expedition cruise from PNG’s capital Guam.
Paul Gauguin Cruises has included the destination in its new 11-night Fiji to Australia voyage, while the ports of Alotau and Madang are ports of call in Silversea’s World Cruise. Orion will also continue to include PNG in its longer-length cruises in the region.
In a trade newsletter, the tourism authority said: “Currently one in every eight package holidays booked in the U.K., is a cruise, which makes cruising the fastest growing sector of the holiday trade. Nowhere is this increase more prevalent than in the waters surrounding Papua New Guinea, which is seeing a steady increase in the number of cruise operators offering expeditions to its magnificent shores.”
