A group campaigning against the expansion of Stansted Airport has called for the removal of an Airports Commission advisor because of a conflict of interest.

The Stop Stansted Expansion campaign wants Sir Howard Davies to remove former Manchester Airports Group (MAG) boss Geoff Muirhead as one of five advisors who sit on his panel.

According to The Sunday Times the group has threatened to take legal action unless he steps down within 14 days.

The report says that despite retiring in 2010, Muirhead has remained involved with the company, staying on as an “ambassador” until January 2013. MAG’s 2010-11 annual report has revealed he was paid GBP82,000 for consultancy services.

Stansted, along with other UK airports, have submitted a proposal to Sir Howard Davies’ Airport Commission, which will advise government how to deal with the UK’s civil aviation crisis.
